Declaring he would "leave politics," Fine Gael`s Ciarán Cannon will not run in the upcoming general election.
He decided not to run in the upcoming election, citing the "coarseness" and "toxicity" of politics.
At the next general election, Cannon becomes the tenth Fine Gael TD to declare that they will not run for reelection.
In 2007, Cannon received a nomination to the Seanad after starting his political career as a councillor for the now-defunct Progressive Democrats in County Galway.
In April 2008, he was chosen to lead the Progressive Democrats, but he also suggested that the party be dissolved in that same year.
In 2009, Cannon left his position as Progressive Democrats' leader and joined Fine Gael.
