only the scanning of the ballots and the process of counting the votes would be computerised .Postal/ electronic voting is open to widescale rigging , it happened in Birmingham during the term New Labour were in power at the turn of the century. One person was collecting ballot papers for "dead people" and sending them in.These were posted weeks before the actual day of the vote.
That would never happen here. Our system is foolproof, tamperproof and above reproach... unless you lose the pencil.

We use computers to look after our money, to take us to the moon and to fly our children around the world, but we won't trust them to count a few poxy votes.

This country is hamstrung by backwoods idiots.
No one every went to the moon. That was just a TV series.

why don't we have just first preference and alternative. Each person is allowed just 2 selectionn.Anymore than 2 choices the balllot paper is classified as spolit vote.It would speed the process yet it would have the STV part to maintain the Prop Representation bit we are used to here.any opinions about that?
Why would you want to decrease how fair the voting system is.
Just leave it as it is and be grateful.

The Irish system stops the waste of votes. Say there are 3 candidates for one seat. A is hard left climate changer B is moderate right and C is far right. Valid poll is 3000

Scenario

A 1100, B 900 C 1000 A wins The vote is split and the minority candidate wins.. With PR in Ireland and the same vote pattern

A = 1100 B 900 and C 1000, B is eliminated and his 2nd go to A 200 bringing him to 1300 600 go to C so he wins and there are 100 non transferable papers.

C wins. This is a conservative electorate and they get their man in

Ireland will never go to the moon because we'll use up all the oxygen talking about it before we even get off the ground.

No computers, mandatory pens for voting and live online streaming of ballot boxes when ballot boxes are in storage. That's your democracy.

The hardest thing on time is counting surplus votes. If the quota is 118K and a candidate get 120K. That 2000 surplus has to
be distributed in proportion to the surplus. Some will be non transferable. some will transfer to elected or eliminated candidates. Then their
are tay breaks, toilet breaks , sleep breaks, the lot.
I'm not sure that you understand the system at all.

Its not who understands it, its the law which covers nearly it all. Its a single transferable vote. If you want it explained let ,e know. The surplusses are now all counted and it a process of elimination. There was a racket in Dublin when two canditates were on the same number. The returning officer decided only one would have their transfers counted.
