Batten is a rather decent man. But he isn't a slick enough a politician as Farage. Of course, most nationalist parties need to re-centre themselves as workers' parties, but I doubt UKIP will be able to achieve this. UKIP has been in a coma since the EU Referendum. Farage is really the only man who can potentially pull it out.

However the best option would be for the Cabinet and ex-Cabinet Brexiteers to institute a palace coup against May. Get her out. Once she's out then they need to essentially cleanse the Conservative Party of Remainers. Farage should be brought into the Conservative Party as a senior lieutenant. If you have the parliamentary strength to continue then do so, if not - hold an election.

Mr Batten is an old hand. He has a job to do and thus far appears to be doing it very well. He's building a base of people he can attract quickly.

The DFLA will only be used to help swell party numbers, apart from rent-a-mob they offer nothing else.

Same with Mr Robinson and his 1 million plus (and increasing) on line followers. If a good number of them can be recruited too, it all helps the party coffers and puts crosses on the ballot paper.

That Farage would walk away the moment the Brexit result came in is dodgy. Surely it was it moment for UKIP to double down as the biggest pressure group to force the Tories to deliver on the result. UKIP has experienced a bit of an electoral lift in recent weeks, now Farage comes out with this Brexit Party. If one was given to conspiracy you'd be forgiven for thinking that Farage is a hired pied piper for the Tories to marshall the patriotic people away from real issues

Nigel has done nothing but run a propaganda machine on LBC etc in favour of Brexit since the Referendum. & hasn't left anything.

He has always been the head of the EFDD governing UKIP & also been an active MEP.

Now he is hoovering up the UKIP Vote lost by the Tommy R Footbal Guys- sharp politics.

A vote that will keep the Gun in Barnier's Lug.

I think Farage knew that the political establishment would not deliver on Brexit. so he deliberately walked away, so as not to be contaminated with their betrayal / sellout of Brexit.

Now that they have been seen to have betrayed Brexit, he has re-entered the fray.

Farage is a smart cookie.
