i would agree with you, but the lack of money for prisons is surely a big part of the problem.

we should do as in the US, put criminals working to earn their keep.

Put them to work building prisons.
The cost of new prisons will easily be offset by less policing requirements.

The solution is actually very simple - enforced minimum sentencing.
Minimum 1 year for 1st criminal offence.
Minimum 5 years for 3rd criminal offence.
Minimum 10 years for 5th criminal offence.
You'll see crime collapse within 3 years.

Crime is a very strong adherent to the 80/20 rule.
20% of criminals will commit 80% of crimes.
Hit those 20% hard and you'll see crime plummet.

You also need minimum sentencing for civil offences, albeit more forgiving at the beginning.

But the key is it's implementation.
You need to avoid rubbish like this:

Perhaps there is more to this than meets the eye but the level of organised criminality in places like darndale /priorswoord are ridiclously predictable . I do not know how people would choose to live there.

The garda organisers should close the roads, send in a couple of goons dressed as scumbags and go to town on them ..literally turn a blind eye .

Do You Know what's going on? The gardai know what going on? Turf wars? And look the whole community turns a blind eye when their sons, brothers and friends are shot and stabbed by rival gangs. "Mr Cashie" & "Mr Dogsballs" are cutting the kids down to size and most likely are working for a bigger plan which they may not even be aware of themselves.

The life kids spend at home in their formative years in a small number of homes in these areas
is just hell, they know no better, they lash out , they are not nurtured but subjected to the most
dysfunctional family chaos in modern society,

throwing out an idea,, not standing over it , but , if the local community, extended family, social services
the local Garda , Schools etc,, could intervene and remove kids from the nightmare family home they
might stand a chance,,

Of course it has to be evidence led and based on facts ,, what is the point of letting Children grow up in

meant far, far, more death would have occurred in that time if abortion on demand was available and there would have been

Besides Gardai would be unable to turn a blind eye since they routinely employ the use of Informers, have undercover officers surveilling and buying in the area to keep competition out, have officers clandestinely working for the gangs, all seen on street cams.

Without a doubt there is a bit of collaboration going on .

When I used to frequent town (Dublin) , there was always the same heads in the same places. The corner of north earl and Marlborough st used to have a dealer on each corner selling pills etc. If I could spot this , there is no doubt the Garda could as well ..but yet they sold there for ages.

When crims are the only money makers in an area , they attract young people like a magnet . The rigors of the law do not seem to work and a more disruptive method is needed.
Apparently the dealers in priorswood/darndale also act as the doormen, only letting those who come with money to buy into the area. If the likes of you or me decided to take a stroll around the leafy suburbs of DDale we would not get very far.

The thing is, imho, It's a drug war, Guns & marching powder and as posters have already mentioned many participants have been born into it's chaos and horror. It appears the only thing that works is to take the profit out of the system? For example Swiss and Dutch authorities actually supply the heroin and needles free of charge now. they probably tried all sorts of other initiatives but in the end it's 'Just give 'em what they want'. Can wider society see the benefits?

Same with the Cannabis, we don't realise just how much money is at stake, and the profits??? all gifted to Mr Kilstabber?
Better alternative exist, here's a factoid from last year for example . . .
