The Workers' Party has so far nominated nine candidates to run in this year's Local Elections. Two of them, Ted Tynan and Eilis Ryan are sitting local councillors.
Cllr Eilis Ryan is running in the Dublin constituency for the Euro Elections.

One of the worst parties in Ireland with a horrible history and an equally detestable future. I do take solace in the reality though that the 'future' of the Workers Party will be as a pathetic rump party.

They've been a pathetic rump party since the split with Democratic Left.
But at least we hold fast to our anti-fascist, anti imperialist Republican Socialist ideals of James Connolly.

You are clearly too young to remember Ann Lovett and the Kerry Babies.

Would you have single mothers sent to the Magdalene Launderies there Tadhg?
How would abortion have made either of those tragedies any better? Ann Lovett needed kindness and a roof over her and her baby's head - not the chopping block.

But couldn't get it due to the fear and ignorance in Ireland at the time. She was a vulnerable girl who needed help. She had no one to turn to. Not even her parents.

Would you have sent her to a home run by the Church?

The really scummy elements in them left to become Democratic Left and than sunk into the Irish Labour Party. Unlike the Shinners they still believe in a 32 county independent as possible unitary Irish State. I wouldn't throw the baby out with the bath water. I think they can have interesting and worthwhile things to say and no way would I lump them in with "People Before Profit". They are a party I would never join but who I might vote for.
