People Power! The Grand hotel in Wicklow Town which is currently been used as a Direct Provision Centre has closed its doors to the public due to lack of business.
Last month it was revealed that the hotel would no longer be able to accommodate guests, as the 33 bedrooms were being used to house Asylum seekers.
East Coast FM have received the following statement from Management -“The non bedroom element of the hotel remains open for bookings and events in theory. That said all events have virtually all been cancelled by the public
The bar has been virtually empty for the past month so as a result of a lack of public interest the bar, residents lounge and ballroom are only available upon request.
Its the commercial outcome caused by local opposition. We did say previously that the remainder of the hotel would remain open but there is simply no business left to justify it unless for a booking or event “
