The Water Margin is one of the most iconic TV series ever made - and in my view, one of the best. It's based on one of the great masterpieces of Classical Chinese literature, but was made by Japanese TV, with Japanese actors. The BBC dubbed the series into English and showed it between 1976 and 1978. The story tells of 108 heroes who take on a corrupt empire which is ruining its people. How relevant to today's EU Empire of Corruption.

I shall check this out, thanks for highlighting this show.

Though I must confess the last time I watched anything from that part of the world was the Japanese TV show Monkey!:D

The Chinese made a super hi-tech special effects version a few years ago. I just saw a trailer for it - didn't like the look of it.
Sometimes remakes can be good, but shows like Monkey are classics and just cant be replaced.

The Water Margin was my favourite show in the 70's.
I still remember the theme tune.
The BBC would never show such violent programmes on the children's schedule these days.
