He asserts that it's not in China's interest to do things which will make them look bad and untrustworthy. If he applied the same principle to Europe, the US and other areas, that line of reasoning wouldn't hold up.

I'm not saying he's wrong, but if Griffin is right then he's pretty confident that China are utterly sensible in all their policies and maneuvering, while Europe and the US are perennial buffoons, which there's no arguing against.
