Why do populations under Capitalist Régimes continue to vote for parties that uphold an economic system that inevitably gives colossal power and wealth to a tiny minority - and leaves the vast majority with zero political power and struggling just to survive? This is an interesting essay that seeks to explain this phenomenon - at least in the case of the USA.

When people can’t easily identify who will be the ultimate beneficiary of a particular state program or policy — that is, whether the rich or the poor will come out on top — then support for that program plummets. Obfuscation from media, politicians, and corporations can have a detrimental effect on public support for social spending.
In the US example this is why the Centrist Democrats are the true enemies of the US working classes - the likes of Clinton, Bloomberg, Obama and Biden who pursue pro corporate policies and generate this 'confusion'. I have always said the real contest is always decided in the Democratic Primaries.

I watched the film The Joker last night and it was very powerful stuff, it could have been making a commentary on modern America with it's focus on class politics - Bruce Wayne's father entering the election reminded me of Michael Bloomberg doing the same... afraid of left wing ideas and willing to use his wealth to stamp them out.

Americans work on the basis that you work hard enough then you will be rewarded

- someday...

They think of the rich as their parents - or schoolmarm. They really believe they will be rewarded for being good boys and girls. It's an entirely infantile position. Arrested development.

No fear.

There's a growing 'entitled class' and they'll soon solve all the problems.

The US national debt grows faster whenever there is a right winger in the White House. Aside from the World War Presidents (whose debt increase is explainable) Reagan and Bush jnr are no 1 and no2 for the increase they added to the national debt. Tax cuts for the rich and warmongering are the two main reasons.

Little Bush alone added 5 trillion, the national debt now stands at 20 trillion. A comparison can be made with out own right wing parties FFG and the country well over 200 billion in debt but the rich have never been happier.
