Three-man jihadist cell arrested in Spain and Morocco

The authorities in Morocco and Spain have dismantled a "terrorist cell" of three Islamic State group supporters, authorities in Rabat and Madrid said on Monday.
Morocco's interior ministry said one of the jihadist suspects was arrested in the northern Moroccan port of Tangier, and the other two were detained in Spain.

The ministry said the three-man cell had been in "close contact" with IS in Iraq and Syria and was recruiting volunteers to join the jihadist ranks.

The arrests were made in Badalona and Salou, towns in Catalonia, with a third man arrested in Tangier, said Spain's interior ministry added in a statement.

Both Morocco and Spain have been spared in the wave of recent IS attacks that have targeted Paris, Brussels and Berlin, as Rabat and Madrid collaborate closely in the fight against extremism.

Police clear out 1,000 migrants from squalid Paris camp

Police in northern Paris Tuesday evacuated a tent camp where some 1,000 migrants, mostly from Afghanistan and Sudan, were living in squalid conditions.
Hundreds of police moved in at dawn to remove the migrants, camped between major access roads into the capital, an AFP journalist said.

The settlement at the Porte de la Chapelle area of the city was located just metres from a new refugee transit centre set up by Paris city authorities late last year to take asylum-seekers off the streets but which has limited space available.

These "illegal camps" present "major risks for the security and health of their occupants as well as for local residents," Paris police said in a statement.

Police halted road traffic on a major crossroads in the north of the city in order to gain access to the camp, where a fight between migrants last month left several injured.

About 350 police were involved in the operation along with some 100 municipal employees and staff from humanitarian groups.

"The government will take us into houses. I don't know where but it's fine," said Said, who said he had been sleeping outside for a month. "For some, it's been three months or more."

Strong increase of asylum seekers after abolition ID checks

he number of asylum seekers has increased sharply since the government abolished ID checks for travelers from Denmark last week, reports Swedish Radio. The number is expected to increase even more gradually as the message of the abolition of controls spread across the world. - This is only the beginning of what may come, says Michael Mattsson, head of border police in the South region.

The night between Wednesday and Thursday last week abolished ID controls for people traveling by train, bus and ferry from Denmark to Sweden.

It has led to the number of migrants and asylum seekers at the border "greatly increased", writes the SR.

The increase in both the number of people turned back at the border, and those seeking asylum at border controls.

Earlier this year, between 40 and 100 people dismissed this week, but only at the weekend rejected 88 people.

The number of people seeking asylum at border controls in southern Sweden earlier in the year has been on five of the week, but then on Thursday, 24 people dropped in to seek asylum.

Michael Mattsson, head of border police in the South region, believes that the number of asylum seekers will increase even more over time as knowledge of the abolition of identity controls are spread across the world.

- I think that this is just the beginning of what may come. First, the message of the identification checks are gone breakthrough before we can see the great effect in Sweden, he says to Swedish Radio.

Libyan coastguard turns back nearly 500 migrants after altercation with NGO ship

Libya's coastguard said it had intercepted nearly 500 migrants packed onto a wooden boat and returned them to Tripoli on Wednesday after warning off a ship that was preparing to pick them up for passage to Europe.

"An international rescue organization called Sea-Watch tried to hinder the work of our coastguard ... in a bid to take the migrants, claiming Libya is not safe for migrants," he said.

Qassem said the coastguard had also exchanged fire with smugglers, but gave no details.

Ruben Neugebauer, a spokesman for Sea-Watch, said the NGO had received instruction from Italy's coastguard control center in Rome that the Libyan coastguard would be taking over "on-scene command", and that the Sea-Watch ship had stopped to await further instructions.

"Without any warning, they crossed our bow on the way to the migrant boat," Neugebauer said. "They made an extremely dangerous maneuver. They nearly hit our boat, they endangered our crew."

Qassem said the wooden boat intercepted on Wednesday was carrying nearly 300 Moroccans, 145 Bangladeshis, 23 Tunisians, and other migrants from elsewhere in Africa and the Middle East.

The sheer brazenness of these NGOs is staggering.

New Scots Nats effort. Looks to be the shouty street type variety with Runic symbols in the mould of the now banned National Action.

I don't think they could make it look less appetising to your average punter if they tried.
Why can't they just wave the Scottish flag?
Makes you wonder whether it is a stunt by the authorities like Joe Owens always says.
Least they're using a bit of Gaelic.

TWITTER SAYS TELLING THE TRUTH ABOUT THE REFUGEE CRISIS IS “HATEFUL CONDUCT”

Pointing out objective fact that there are few women & children migrants could be illegal

Twitter Says Telling the Truth About the Refugee Crisis is “Hateful Conduct”

It won't be long until anyone who even uses the word "crisis" will be branded as a wacist, as the word "crisis" has negative connotations - and we all know that Maximum Diversity is the greatest good (as long as the word "diversity" doesn't mean still having white people in the world - that would be wacist).

A German court has said it is ok to cut the welfare of a Cameroonian man who came to Germany 13 years ago, failed his asylum bid but wouldn't help the authorities get him a passport so they could kick him out. He still gets food vouchers and accommodation.

That's where Germany is at. 13 years and they couldn't kick out an asylum spoofer. Best they can do is cut his welfare.

Fresh Calls for EU Funding to Be Withheld from States Which Refuse Migrant Quota

Finland’s finance minister has added his voice to those calling for European Union funding to be withdrawn from member states which refuse to take in migrants.

Speaking to Reuters, Petteri Orpo called for more conditions to be placed on the allocation of cohesion funds when the EU next draws up its next budget framework, Euractiv has reported.

“Supporting new and developing member states is an important part of the European project,” he said.
“But when we look forward, and at the migrant crisis, we just cannot stand by when payments from the net contributors are welcomed, but burden sharing is not.”

Europe must turn back migrants on smugglers' boats: Belgian minister

The European Union must not accept African migrants who pay people smugglers to cross the Mediterranean, but turn them back, Belgium's migration minister Theo Francken told Reuters on Thursday.

Only then could the bloc open up legal pathways for refugees and migrants into Europe and fly them in under an annual cap, he said, rather than get more of the uncontrolled influx that saw 1.6 million people reach its shores in 2014-2016.

"This system is totally crazy and is not working. We have to fix this by being very clear: taking a ticket on a smuggler boat does not give you free entrance into the European continent," said Francken, who is with the Flemish nationalist N-VA party.

"The current system is totally inhumane," he said, adding it enriched international criminal networks dealing with people smuggling at the expense of thousands dying on the sea crossing.
Francken made clear his comments referred to all Africans - north and sub-Saharan - and to those coming in smugglers' boats, who make up the great majority of those sailing to Europe.

Some 50,000 have made it across the Mediterranean to Europe so far this year, most of them African migrants unlikely to win asylum in Europe.
