In fairness, in parts of Africa where there are no pensions and life is much more precarious and labour intensive,no harm with all the migrants and their uncontrolled breeding habits we will be 10 million before long....
it makes sense to have more children because inevitably some will die and you will need about two of them
at least to survive to take care of you in your older age.
However that cultural pattern no longer makes sense if you transplant that person into a modern urban situation.
No matter what the bleeding hearts say though, population IS the elephant in the room.
There are just too many humans.
However to capitalism, based as it is on the absurdity of infinite growth on a finite planet,
there are never too many humans. Just more consumers and cheap labour. What's not to like?
