A bit of respect for the countless people who like a drink, and appreciate value, please.
In my case, long residence in the USA developed in me a taste for bourbon and its rarer companion, rye.
The selection of bourbons in my local Tesco goes no farther than Jack Daniels and a generic brand.
Similar generics are on sale in LIDL and Aldi for about 15 quid for 750 ml.

None is very good, but one is drinkable.
So I buy it.
The govt is now going to raise its price to 20 euros.
It's not worth that, so I won't buy.
It probably means I will have to buy Jack Daniels, a rather mediocre drink, as the bourbons I drank in the US such as Makers Mark and . Wild Turkey are rarely on sale. Canadian whiskys can be decent also, Crown Royal is palatable, but I never see them on sale here.
JD already retails for 22+.

This does NOT mean that I will drink less.
I will drink when and where I like, and no damn fool will dictate to me. At the first opportunity I will fly north in search of reinforcements.

Question to all:
When did this or any government enact anything that made your life happier?
I'm partial to the occasional tipple myself so I'm not knocking social drinking at all. However, there are one or two close to me who have suffered alcoholics in the family and I speak from their experience.

Prohibition on drink in the 1920's/30's in the USA fed the small time gangsters and hoodlums.who became very wealthy men.
They in turn corrupted Police ,Judges and Politicians.
2nd Generation moved into more sophisticated means of income flows ,such as Hotels and Casinos.
3rd Generation moved into Corporate suites ,where the pickings were easier.
The methods of control remain the same. They now control Corporate America, especially the Pharmaceutical Industry, and eliminate anyone that threatens their monoploly.
For Big Pharma ,there is no revenue flow from cures for disease.

They also moved into politics. Pelosi is deep mob. Her daddy was mayor of Baltimore and was heavily involved with Benny Trotta and his crew during prohibition.

Gript is reporting that the govt is also making illegal traditions such as a bride to be having a glass of champagne when she goes to fit her gown.
Or what apparently some salons offer, a little bubbly while you get your hair done.

Of course Misery Martin won't be spending much time at the hairdressers, the baldy POS.

I am just able to remember a Fine Gael Labour coalition govt of the 1980s getting the reputation of killjoys. They were kicked out of office. Haughey's FF came in, promising to laisser les bons temps rouler
I am convinced a Happy Hopeful Party could sweep seats in Ireland next time.

They're just shocking. When you think they can't get any worse, they get worse. More nanny-state bolloxoloy and probably a sop to the publicans, who will get shafted again this Summer anyway.

Also, Mehole is going on about the new Citizen's Assembly recommendations, which are a catalogue of woke, PC horseshit.

Instead of prioritising the opening up of the economy, they'll be shoving more woke CA laws down your throat.

I have already by-passed the Publicans and Govt taxation, as a died in the wool entreprenauer.
I brew my own beer ,and have my own stills. where I produce high quality whisky, rum and vodka. I supply several Shebeens, where my product is received enthusiastically ,for quality and price.
As a side line I have been investigating the production of distilling medical CBD ,but the supply of the base product is a problem, with individuals I do not wish to associate with.
When Tyranny and despotism reign, one can starve the Beast by creating a free parallel society of self sufficiency. Of neccessity it must be secret and secure.
Me too, I distil my own, bout a dozen bottles a year, great tack by all accounts. I only use it on the lurchers don't you know.:Wink Smile:

The sale of tonic wine went up 16% in Scotland following similar laws there.
