On this day in 1948, the day after Israel was created, an estimated 700,000 Palestinians fled or were expelled from their land and hundreds of Palestinian villages were destroyed or depopulated.

Palestinians refer to this day as 'Nakba Day'.

Nakba means catastrophe or disaster.

These refugees and their descendants number several million people today.

I will confess to not knowing too much in relation to the historic changes of Palestine and Israel other than the land has been changing hands over thousands of years. I recently found this map which I thought was striking and shocking.

Looking at the map you have to wonder how Israel was allowed to take so much land and why the UN or whoever was responsible simply did not carve up the country fairly between both countries.

It is something that still continues today.
he reality is that this is the 68th year of the Palestinian Nakba.
The reality is that the Palestinian displaced population is the largest and longest-standing displaced population in the world today, numbering almost 8 million.
The reality is that 66 percent of the Palestinian population has experienced forced displacement at least once in their lifetime.
The reality is that Palestinians continue to be displaced by an Israeli regime based on forcible transfer, colonization and apartheid.
The reality is that forcible transfer, colonization and apartheid are international crimes that trigger the legal and ethical responsibility the global community.

This is just another crazed Islamic attack on the Jewish people of Israel, you would do well to remember that these lands belong to the Jew and were given to them by God himself. When they came to the lands of Israel there were no Palestinian settlements other than a few goat herders.

You might like to mention the small detail that the number of Palestinians living in Israel today is higher than the total population of Palestine in 1947. They number of Palestinians in Palestine was under a million in 1947, today their number in Israel is over 1.5 million.

good point Wexfordinn and one that is constantly overlooked by those who would want to make the state of Israel to always be the bad guys.

Its Ironic that these people always whinge and moan about how the land should be given back to Palestine forgetting the fact that these lands were stolen from the people of Israel in the first place.

There's also 1,000,000+ African Jews with no historic links to the middle-east at any level living in Israel. The only explanation for that is to maintain a Jewish majority, and the Zionists are all too aware of the demographic time-bomb which confronts them. Or at least it did in the past.

Demographics of Israel - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

'The Ahmadiyya community was first established in the region in the 1920s, in what was then Mandatory Palestine. Israel is the only country in the Middle East, where Ahmadi Muslims can openly practice their faith, which is not recognized as part of Islam by most Sunni and Shi'a denominations. As such, Kababir, a neighbourhood on Mount Carmel in Haifa, Israel, acts as the Middle East headquarters of the Community. It is unknown how many Israeli Ahmadis there are, although it is estimated there are about 2,200 Ahmadis in Kababir alone.'

The Ahmadiyyan's are to Israel, what the Rathlin Islanders were to Ian Paisley. As far as I know, the founding father of the PFLP came from a Christian background.

There are parallels, imo, between the Tel Aviv–Jerusalem bus 405 suicide attack directed at school children, which was carried out in July 1989, and the IRA bomb attack against a school bus in 1988,(Irish Times, June 29, 1988.)

List of Palestinian suicide attacks - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Tel Aviv attack marked a new departure for the 'armed-struggle', and a member of Hamas was later found to be responsible for the attack. Some people believe that Hamas were a counterweight to the secularist PFLP, or at the very least, they were being manipulated by darker forces.

What is that supposed to mean - when their country is occupied by foreign settlers?

Israel is a brute neo-Cromwellian state, a neo-imperialist outpost in a very thin democratic disguise unceremoniously planted and armed by the West to fragment the ME It was no moral legitimacy whatsoever.

It's interesting that Cromwell toyed with the idea of giving Ireland to the Jews as their new Israel - once he had done a Nakba on the Irish people. How little times really change.
