Perhaps.
But very little and the connection is tenuous considering how the east Germany economy under Stalin and his succesors was a miserable failure for all of its existence.

Quite the contrary. The DDR had one of the most successful economies and societies in the world. It was certainly much better off than Ireland was in the 1960s, 70s and 80s.

So why did they build a fence around it to stop people escaping this "successful " economy during those decades?
Indeed anybody attempting to leave without permission was shot dead .
A successful society where
everybody spied on everybody else.?
Im afraid you have rose tinted spectacles concerning the DDR .

Not really when you look at how national socialst Germany,s economy surged forward hugely between 1933 and 1948.
The economy of East Germany under the D D R never performed well at all.

The DDR economy did really well. It had a huge range of quality production. It housed all of its people and gave them employment, education and health care. It allowed the youth to marry early and have lots of healthy German children, and child minding facilities were provided to allow young mothers to continue their education and careers. The DDR was a paradise on earth compared to Germany today. If Ireland wants a role model, it should look to the DDR.

If this was such a paradise why were people shot dead for leaving it without permission?
You can not support any state that destroys human freedom like that.

Thats incorrect.
The wall was built to keep people incarcerated in an utterly failed socialist experiment.

Not at all. I would think that the DDR was the best run and most successful society that ever existed in Europe. It's people were healthy, well fed, highly educated, hard working and pure blooded Germans. They also had high respect for religion and national duty. No wonder that one in nine Berliners say they want the Wall back.

Of course I can. They were breaking the law. They could have been enemy agents carrying information to the enemy. Anyway, very few of them were shot.

I’m sorry but that argument runs against all the known facts about east Germany.
Except for the one in nine diehard communists .
