They could cut out the problem of TV licence evasion by making RTE a subscription only service.

But they won't do that because that would limit the reach of their Propaganda.
Well, that and going bankrupt overnight.

The licence fee should have been done away with 20 years ago.
Amazing how we can privitise so many industries, yet RTE remains.

It's a terrific setup if you think about it.

RTE employees get a large salary for telling everyone that the government is doing such a wonderful job.
The government gets great publicity and in return, green lights the licence fee gravy train.

Meanwhile, the average punter gets fed blatant propaganda and is forced to pay for the privilage.
And if you object on point of principal, you eventually end up in jail and all that, that entails......it's like something out of the 18th century.

Yes, if somebody came up with the idea we'd all say that the people would never fall for it.

It's all relative--and RTE is all relatives.
Just caught a bit of the late debate on rte radio 1. One of the contributors, guy with an American accent whose wife works in rte calls for an increase in the license. Clown radio. Although I get the hint from most contributors that the most ire is reserved for the big earners. Lower paid being thrown under the bus to keep the"stars".

Subscription only? Imagine anyone paying to watch Ray D'Arcy telling us to be embarrassed to be Irish ... Oh, hang on a minute 🤔
