Whilst im not a believer of the idea that the world is suffering climate change by the hands of man, I do find it interesting that the North Pole is set to see its temperatures rise above freezing for only the 2nd time in recorded history.

For the record I believe this to be a natural occurrence as the Earth goes through its own natual climate changes, like the Ice age etc.

The sun has not risen above the North Pole since mid-September. The sea ice—flat, landlike, windswept, and stretching as far as the eye can see—has been bathed in darkness for months.

But later this week, something extraordinary will happen: Air temperatures at the Earth’s most northernly region, in the middle of winter, will rise above freezing for only the second time on record.

On Wednesday, the same storm system that last week spun up deadly tornadoes in the American southeast will burst into the far north, centering over Iceland. It will bring strong winds and pressure as low as is typically seen during hurricanes.

That low pressure will suck air out of the planet’s middle latitudes and send it rushing to the Arctic. And so on Wednesday, the North Pole will likely see temperatures of about 35 degrees Fahrenheit, or 2 degrees Celsius. That’s 50 degrees hotter than average: It’s usually 20 degrees Fahrenheit below zero there at this time of year.

The Irish Yacht Northabout circumnavigated the North Pole.   It made the North West passage Ireland via Greenland over top of Canada to Nome Alaska in 2001.    Two years later same Yacht made the NE passage over Russia from the Bering Strait to Murmansk, over Norway and back to Westport Clew Bay Ireland via the Caledonian Canal.    The NE passage was over two summers as they got caught in the ice off the Russian coast.

A member of that crew assures me than from examination of aerial photographs that there is much less ice in those waters now, and that many yachts now make these passages.   In 2011 only five yachts went thru the NW passage.

SO the ice is melting.    Some evidence of global warning?
