Adorno found Jazz degenerate and even horrific, wanting it banned, he never lived to see the whole lets get drugged and gyrate to basically the sounds of a car alarm scene which I am sure Boyd Barret approves of.
Well, if Adorno stuck to critique of classical music and opera, we'd think he was a great fellow. He certainly did know his music. I wouldn't think he was the worst in general. Like a lot of the Frankfurt School, he seems to have been totally overpowered by the Holocaust and couldn't see beyond it. He simply couldn't accept that we humans can do things like that - and then do something wonderfully good in the next moment. However, he was correct in thinking that there was something inherently rotten in the West German state - but he was wrong in thinking that it was National Socialism. This rottenness has since become the European Union.
