Love him or hate him, the way he was taken out was fucking bizarre and unfair.

One backhanded clumsy compliment for Jews misinterpreted as an insult snatched on by a media and social media frenzy
then stabbed in the back by the Establishment(who just months before picked him to meet the English queen when she was here at one of the events).

No evidence that he hates Jews, indeed a live-times worth of columns and commentary
filled with scores of pro-israel and pro-Jewish comments, all thrown aside.

It was a deep and chilling injustice.

Well you should never ignore the fact that Grub St, ie journalism is a den of vipers, and however cosy and backslapping and drinkie-winkies they might appear to outsiders, they all hate each other's guts. They are basically rivals not colleagues or co-workers. That means they have an abiding sense of jealousy and rage when one hack is more celebrated than another, or gets some great publishing/TV/film deal. They store it all up, and if they get anything they can use, or if they feel you are on the slide, they will use it.

It wasn't Irish journalists elites or Jews who lit the paper under his career though - it was primarily British Jewish organisations.

And yes those would hound you forever if you crossed them.

They were assisted though. It doesn't change the fact that there is no real loyalty among journalists to another journalist, a sort of Brotherhood of the Pen. It doesn't exist. All the points other posters have made, that Myers has been consistently sympathetic to Israel, that he is not known for holding any anti-semitic opinions, could have been forcibly made by a journalistic profession with a sense of ethics or integrity. They don't have one.

Despite his sometimes hysterical denunciations of various Irish historical figures, I always had a grudging respect for Myers. The one thing you could always say about him is that he has independence of mind. He wasn't interested in sucking up to any particular group, or courting favour with other journalists. For that he deserves some respect.

He uttered some truths nobody else would touch (asylum, foreign aid), it's not so much that he was great in doing that - rather it was that the majority are deficient. He did attempt to suck up the Jews when his career was on life support to no avail.

Myers was , like Waters and Guerin,, the last journalists in Irish media,, The current crop of propagandist scum will be replaced by robots (no difference) I would love to have an online Media outlet for Ireland,, bypassing all the government fascists and media scum,, just reporting on the
facts about third world housing numbers, justice, judiciary clowns, political crime (and it is crime) etc,,

Vladkar is a fooking clown spinner like Trudeau/Macron, utterly fooking rubbish at the ACTUAL JOB, but has the media,

We all know it but the opinion is never discussed, the media in Ireland could not be more sh1t and biased if we were in Russia or North Korea,

Currently, Fine Gael are offering a bogus asylum seeker from Nigeria as an option to vote in as a local councilor in my area ?
Social democrats are doing something similar in Dublin Central,

We really need to destroy and wipe out our Political class and start again,,,

2.0 and have a conversation ,, not propaganda,,,

One of myers' grandparents was from Co Tyrone, farmers, catholic but not over-the-moon "republican". I think that's why he was sent to NI as a journo in the 70s, where he found out a lot more than any of us here ever will.
