Here's what I often wonder though. The lads discuss Adorno's critique of the commodification of leisure time in the above video. All well and good; it is a worthwhile critique to read up on. However, Woods and Morgoth are both practical atheists and therefore implied materialists. Man has no objective purpose. He is accidentally born and perhaps will decide to perpetuate himself (the species anyway) for no reason in particular other than the biological imperative. What then does it matter if our lives have been made comfortably boring by the commodification of leisure? It doesn't matter of course! Will the penny ever drop with them I wonder?
The Germans and Nazis were not interested in creating a Utopian Pan-Euro continent. This is laughable. They were conquerors who viewed other nations and races as quite inferior, and onto whom they would impose their own will and system, irrespective of local interest or desire. All very Nietzschean of course.
And in mentioning the Alt Right fetish for all things Nazi, we see exposed a double standard. Woods et al are forever bemoaning the commodification of society imposed by a Neo Liberal order (fair enough). They insist on calling it Capitalist, but it is not. A debt based and rent based system of economic peonage is not Capitalist. It is predatory and discivic.
However, at the same time they ignore the Nazi commodification of Northern European mythos, that they appropriated and press-ganged into service to promote an entirely manufactured and stage managed version of a pan Germanic history that is not supported by archaeology. Men like Albert Speers (Hitler's architect) and Goebbels acted as the Hollywood directors of this nationally scaled performance piece. The Nazis and the modern Nazi friendly alt-righters are merely a bunch of fantasist larpers. Both reject the actual founding histories and ideologies of a Europe they claim to want to save.
There is no difference in Woods' appeal to Nazi conquest or the fat spotty D+D players of our own era, running about the woods with wooden axes, pretending to worship Odin. There is a great degree of infantile thinking behind both.
