Blog John Hume, Rest in Peace

This morning the sad news is reported of the death of John Hume, former First Minister for Northern Ireland, founder and leader for three decades of the SDLP.
Hume was also an active participant for the Credit Union movement.
Hume also received the Nobel Peace Prize

Hume started his political activity in civil rights campaigning.

May he rest in peace and sincere condolences to his family and friends

RIP. But the fact is that he was a great asset for the enemy. He spent his whole career trying to subvert resistance to British imperialism - and convince the Irish that their docility and pacifism was something to be proud of. The so called "peace process" was never anything more than a surrender process - an abject assimilation to Anglo-Saxon law, language, customs and economic system. The end goal of the so called "GFA" was to produce an Ireland that the Ulster Unionists would feel comfortable in, i.e. Sacsa eile darb anim Éire, as the old poet put it - Another England by the name of Ireland.

Hume is a collosus on the Irish political stage.
The greatest politician/ statesman of recent times by a country mile. Arguably one of the greatest of all time.

His greatest legacy is relative peace now in NI, concerning the war there between 1969-1995.

He was ignored, belittled and then patronised by sections of the political class in this jurisdiction.
I well remember Hume being belittled by FF, I think it was Albert Reynolds specifically.

Reynolds of course then backtracked.

Rest in Peace John Hume.
You were a giant amongst us.
You cared for your People.
You created homes, savings, work for your People. You saved 1000’s of your People’s lives. You were and are a true Hero.
thank your your relentless Campaign to free your People from Tyranny from both armed loyalists and Nationalists. From the beaches of Magilligan to the Bloody streets of Derry, to having your home And family attacked to the Good Friday Agreement. Under your leadership, the SDLP held a prolife stance, unlike the SDLP of today.
god bless you and welcome you John.
Anyone who degenerates John Humes motives here today is a traitor to the Irish People. Go read your history books before dwelling on the outcome.

There was always peace in Ireland - as long as Croppy was willing to lie down.

John Humes motives were peace at any price. There is a sort of docile Irish that regards peace and plenty of spuds in the pot as the highest good. But, they are not "The Irish People." Even if they are the majority of the Irish people.

GFA voter turnout number and the number of votes in favour of agreement are "the Irish People"
