Jeremy Kyle Show axed by ITV after death of guest Steve Dymond

"Given the gravity of recent events we have decided to end production of The Jeremy Kyle Show," ITV boss Carolyn McCall has said.

The Jeremy Kyle Show has been permanently cancelled after a guest reportedly took his own life.

ITV made the announcement this morning, confirming the show would not return following the death of Steve Dymond.

A source told Sky News staff at the team's office in Salford were "in floods of tears" after hearing the news, saying: "It's awful up there."

In a statement, chief executive Carolyn McCall said: "Given the gravity of recent events we have decided to end production of The Jeremy Kyle Show.

"The Jeremy Kyle Show has had a loyal audience and has been made by a dedicated production team for 14 years, but now is the right time for the show to end.

The confrontational talk show was taken off air and suspended on Monday after news of Mr Dymond's death emerged.

The 63-year-old's body was found at an address in Grafton St, Portsmouth, on 9 May, a week after recording the show.

"Broadcasters and production companies have a responsibility for the mental health and wellbeing of participants and viewers of their programmes," the prime minister's spokesman said.

"We are clear they must have appropriate levels of support in place."

I'm no fan of Jeremy Kyle, I consider it trash TV. However, I accept it gave much enjoyable viewing to many people including our good friend @Dublin 4

However, Axing a TV show because someone committed suicide? There is no way to connect the dots here, how do we know the unfortunate person killed themselves over something else?

It seems ridiculous, strange and pathetic that a TV show ends after 14 years because of what happened beyond the show's control.

Incidentally, ITV have another show called Love Island, will this also now be axed as there have been 2 suicides by people from that show or does it bring in too much cash for ITV with all the products sold as a result of the show?

Listened to the coverage of this story on LBC radio yesterday and it was one pearl clutching bleeding heart after another, outraged by the Kyle show. The people go on the show are not brought there by gun point, nor forced to participate. They do come from one section of the community, the working and underclass and its clear that New Class Statists regard these people has having no agency of their own. They are to exist out of sight, not to be allowed to parade themselves on the TV, unless the show is about recipients of some charitable enterprise by the same middle classes. Its the same attitude that oozes out of the Labour party. That the New Class of Statists "own" the working classes, that they are the self appointed guardians of that class, but not actually of that class, and are shocked if that class ever speaks out for itself. Its sanctimonious paternalism of the worse kind.

And of course we see that usual tropes used by the New Class Statist be trotted out. Being poor means your "vulnerable" and in the same category as whales and Himalayan snow leopards, you're a cause that needs rescuing. Being on the Kyle show means that you have "mental health issues" and need rescuing from yourself. You're are being "exploited" because you couldn't possible think for yourself and we know much better than you do. They are "poorly educated", even though there has been the complete capture of the education system by the New Class Statists for generations.

BBC Newsnight covered up Jimmy Saville stories.. yet in continues to be considered to be the pinnacle of serious, mature, liberal virture broadcasting. Channel 4 and BBC worked hand in glove with intelligence agencies to manufacture stories of Syrian government atrocities. Laughable in their technical incompetnece, yet are still considered to be important opinion formers in serious broadcasting.

Kyle made a career out of exploiting vulnerable or educationally subnormal people and their messy interpersonal trainwreck relationships.
Fuck him. It's a miracle this took so long to happen with one of them the way he acted!

Good riddance to this asshole and his program. It was the emotional equivalent of gladiatorial combat and the arena
with poor trailer trash saps used as the fodder while Kyle went home smug and rich to his nice life at their expense each day.

I really like this show, along with "Teen Tourettes on Tour", but I can see why they chopped it. It is, after all, the psychiatric charlatanry in full swing; and psychiatry causes suicide; does not prevent it.

It was really the emotional equivalent of gladiatorial fights in ancient Rome. I am in total agreement with you here.
