The poppy culture is another means to glorify war by perpetuating the myths of sacrifice and honour that nations need if they are to fill the ranks in time of war. It's not about giving a fig for the dead soldiers.

The Brits have successfully entangled religion and patriotism with their military machine to ensure a ready supply of cannon fodder when the need arises.

And Ireland is steadily following suit, with even some Catholic bishops now being conned into promulgating the glory of war.
Which ones?

That trivialises the awful tragedy of war and exposes a shallow intellect.
In war people always murder each other.
Your avatar shows a mass murderer.
Wars are always orchestrated by the ruling class to secure or broaden their power. They trick people into murdering each other and reap the benefit.
By the way- many priests and bishops blessed such sick behavior in the past.
Your pal Putin gets priests to bless bombs before they are dropped on people.

Murder is unlawful killing.
Wars declared by states are lawful.
Therefore the killing is not murder.

But your narrow and truly judgemental view shows no mercy whatsoever.

You are the kind of pacifist that shelters behind armies while stabbing them in the back.

There is no such thing as lawful killing. As an anti abortionist you should know that.
Wars are the games of the rich and powerful. Only fools take part in such acts to murder each other.
You sound as if you would be one of those beneficiaries of war situations.

I think Irish people who have had enough of this poppy-cock nonsense should wear a syringe on their lapels in protest at the multi-billion heroin industry that comes from the same poppy that the royals and other elites have profited from for ages now. The Heroin Industry got a shot in the arm (pardon the pun) from the so called War on Terror and the opium production went into overdrive as American troops shipped pallet loads of heroin out of Afghanistan after the defeat of the Taliban.
