'Italian Deputy PM Salvini attended the Dublin protest against the Global Compact on Migration' | Cork's 96FM

Fiona O'Leary told PJ Coogan on Cork's 96 FM that the Deputy Prime Minister of Italy, Matteo Salvini, attended the protest in Dublin against the Irish government's decision to sign the UN's Global Compact on Safe, Regular and Orderly Migration.

Fiona said she was very worried about support for Salvini in Ireland. She said he was a very frightening individual, interested in national pride and "that sort of thing". She had seen a photograph of a man at the protest whom she believed was Salvini with a mob. She told Coogan that it was a terrifying sight, like something out of a history book Fiona wants to know what Salvini was doing in Ireland "waving his fascist flag".

In Italy, Salvini passed the decision on whether to sign the pact to Italian parliament. They voted against signing it.

Hermann Kelly's IREXIT Freedom To Prosper party had organised the protest outside the Dáil. Placards were held reading 'Our Land, Our Laws, In Our Lifetime'.

Fiona described the protest in Dublin as one against refugees and people fleeing war-torn countries but the UN's pact seeks to increase legal pathways for economic migrants and penalise criticism of replacement migration as too many migrants were abusing the asylum system in search of a better life. The UN's solution is to create legal pathways for them.

At the beginning of 2018, there were 500,000 failed asylum seekers in Italy, 200,000 had applications pending and only 30,000 were considered to have genuine claims. Matteo Salvini's rise to power can be attributed to his opposition to the abuse in the asylum industry.

In Ireland, the five leading countries of origin for asylum applicants in 2017 were Georgia, Albania, Pakistan, Nigeria and Zimbabwe which are not acknowledged conflict zones with high grant rates.

Approximately 10% of asylum requests in Ireland are granted.

However, according to the ESRI, 80% of deportation orders on failed asylum seekers are not implemented.

The govt has as secret scheme allowing failed asylum seekers to stay in Ireland if they have been here for five years.

Some members of the Dáil are currently trying to pass a bill which will expand the family reunification programme. Fine Gael had reduced the programme in 2015 allowing refugees to bring in parents, spouses and children under 18 only.

An expanded programme would allow them to bring in grandparents, nephews, nieces, cousins, siblings and adult children again.

Minister David Stanton told the Dáil that under the old expanded programme, one person applied to bring in 70 family members. The average per application was 20.

Failed asylum seekers who get Leave To Remain are also allowed to use the family reunification programme.

That was good - several mentions of Grand Torino which presumably result in people who had never heard of him googling and then listening etc.

Re that lady - She came out with the line about how she lived in London for a while and how great the Multiculturalism London has is but oddly enough she chooses now not to live there and quite probably lives in an area that has zero Multiculturalism. Its amazing how any Multiculturalists who have chosen to live in a White area rather than Multicultural London come out with that line.

Re that pic of Salvini outside the Dail - presumably that is a fake, either its someone with a Salvini mask or else its a photoshop?

It is photo-shopped.

You would almost want at this stage a real Neo-Nazi movement to spring up in Ireland in order to frighten a sense of proportion into the Wiberals.
