Saudi-led military alliance arrests Zarqawi, other al-Qaeda leaders in Yemen raid

The Saudi-led military coalition fighting in Yemen arrested several members and senior leaders of al-Qaeda on Saturday, during raids to support the Yemeni counter-terrorism army in their battle against Houthi militias.

The arrests were made during air strikes launched in pursuit of al-Qaeda targets in the city of Mukalla, Arab media reported.

Among the al-Qaeda members arrested was the prominent leader Ahmed Said Awad Barhamah, more commonly known as Zarqawi, the Saudi Press Agency stated quoting a source.

Over 40 Saudi-backed fighters killed in southwest Yemen

(Tasnim) The Yemeni Army and local committees, in a retaliatory attack against the forces of the Saudi-led coalition, managed to kill 40 fighters of the Riyadh regime in Yemen’s southwestern province of Taiz, military sources said.

In a unique operation launched on Friday by the Yemeni army troops near the port city of Mocha in Taiz, 40 mercenaries of the fugitive former President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh, were killed and dozens more were wounded, Lebanon’s Arabic-language Al-Mayadeen TV quoted the sources as saying.

In another development, heavy clashes erupted between the Yemeni forces and the mercenaries of Hadi near an air defense base in northwestern parts of Taiz.

According to the Yemeni Defense Ministry, a number of other mercenaries were also killed in missile attacks by the country’s army and Popular Committees east of Marib.

The attacks against Saudi mercenaries came in retaliation for the continued massacre of civilians and destruction of Yemen’s infrastructure by a coalition led by the Saudi regime. - Over 40 Saudi-backed fighters killed in southwest Yemen


Over 1,413 mercenaries casualties in 20-day fighting in Mokha: official

A military official revealed an initial statistic on casualties inflicted by aggression forces and their Saudi-paid mercenaries during their latest escalation over the past 20 days in Mokha port city, Taiz province, putting the number up to 1,413.

The official told Saba that the number of invaders and mercenaries killed in the latest escalation in Mokha has approximately reached 384, mostly from Yemeni deluded southerners, in addition to Sudanese mercenaries.

He said the number of wounded from invaders and mercenaries reached 1,029 injured, in addition to imprison 10 of mercenaries and destroy 27 military vehicles during the combats.

He Confirmed that about 51 of mercenary leaders were killed or injured.

12 Saudi officers killed in helicopter crash in Yemen

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia — The Saudi-led military coalition fighting in Yemen said one of its helicopters crashed in eastern Yemen on Tuesday, killing 12 Saudi officers in one of the deadliest incidents for the kingdom's troops since the war began more than two years ago.

The Black Hawk helicopter crashed in the eastern province of Marib, the coalition said, adding that it is investigating the circumstances. The incident happened as U.S. Defence Secretary James Mattis arrived in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, to discuss the Yemen war with Saudi leaders.
