If people know so little about you that your conservative opinions come as a surprise to them
then you need to question whether you were ever really friends in the first place!

Real friends don't expect you to be something you are not. They take you as you are.
And they may disagree with your ideas on occasion but that's half the fun of being friends
and you quickly find the humour in your differences in ideas and learn from each other.
But at the end of the day you are still just two human beings trying to get through life
with more in common than not. It's on that real unchanging basic foundational stuff
which lasting friendships are built. Not on some political whims and ideas
that will continue to morph and change throughout your lives.

If you are lucky you will manage to make just a handful of real friends in a lifetime.
The rest are just acquaintances who do not matter much and for the most part
just serve to limit you and stunt your growth.
