All previous historical movements were movements of minorities, or in the interest of minorities. The proletarian movement is the self-conscious, independent movement of the immense majority, in the interest of the immense majority. The proletariat, the lowest stratum of our present society, cannot stir, cannot raise itself up, without the whole superincumbent strata of official society being sprung into the air. Though not in substance, yet in form, the struggle of the proletariat with the bourgeoisie is at first a national struggle. The proletariat of each country must, of course, first of all settle matters with its own bourgeoisie.

Wise words for all Nationalists.

Poor Gemma. RTÉ is the propaganda organ of the Bourgeois Régime. Somebody needs to direct Gemma to this thread....

The essential conditions for the existence and for the sway of the bourgeois class is the formation and augmentation of capital; the condition for capital is wage-labour. Wage-labour rests exclusively on competition between the labourers.

John Waters tried to correct her on her terminology before but she was having none of it. She's very stubborn.

Tragically, she seems to get most of her vocab from American You Tube videos. It really is a tragedy that Irish people speak English.

I haven't noticed much difference between the interests of the actually working class and the bourgeoisie these days. I find it very difficult to imagine they might even come to struggle against each other, let alone have one overthrown by the other. Are you sure Tadhg, this is going to be the way it pans out?

You think there's no conflict between Jeff Bezos and the workers he pays so badly that they qualify for food stamps? And the conflict between the bourgeoisie and the working class is not only about money - it's also about a vision for the world. Look at the conflict between the likes of Peter Sutherland and the Patriotic Irish working class. Bourgeois Sutherland wanted a multicultural Ireland where the Native Gael is just one minority among many. The Patriotic working class see Ireland's future very differently.
