I recently spent a day in Galway.
The traffic!
It has congestion on a par with Calcutta or Mexico City and is easily the worst in Ireland or even in Europe.
Speeds are about 2 miles per hour.
It reflects very badly on the City Council.

Avoid!

Galway is a city at sea.

It was never Gaelic.
Galway City was founded by Norman adventurers in the pay of the English king.
Irrelevant who founded it.
It was the Irish city where even two or three decades ago you were almost certain to hear Irish spoken if you strolled around for a while.
I spent a weekend there in the early part of this past summer. I heard Russian, Polish, lots of Portuguese and Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, various African languages that I am not competent to identify.
Ach oiread agus focal amhain Ghaeilge nior chuala me.

That Irish was spoken in Galway city is easily explained by its proximity to the Connemara gaelacht.
As a city it was never Gaelic but entirely alien, foreign and Norman held by a thieving shower called De Burgo from whom the modern day Burkes all descend.
These Norman usurpers marauded, plundered and stole all around them.

To call Galway a Gaelic city is entirely false.
