I prayed I would see the EU dissolve in my lifetime. Looks like it will probably happen now:

In the past, EU member states have shown solidarity. According to its website, since its inception in 2001, the EU Civil Protection Mechanism has responded to more than 330 requests for assistance inside and outside the EU. In July 2018, for instance, when Sweden was facing widespread wildfires, primarily forest fires, EU member states sent firefighting assistance.

The coronavirus outbreak, however, is different from geographically isolated crises, such as forest fires in a member state that can be managed by pooling firefighting or other resources. When an entire continent is in the midst of a highly contagious virus epidemic, solidarity becomes a more complex issue. Every state inevitably considers whether it can afford to send facemasks and protective equipment that might be needed for its own citizens. In other words, every state considers its own national interest first. In the case of Italy's appeal for help, EU member states made their own interests their highest priority. This is classic state behavior and would not have caused any outrage prior to the establishment of the European Union.

Its amazing how quiet the EU have been in all this, they have literally taken a backseat and become obsolete overnight.

If anything good comes out of this it will be a rise of Nationalism and the end of Globalism, all except Ireland who will become the last remaining member of the EU.

It's a bit early to be calling the end of this monstrosity ... much as I'd like to..

The solid gold swill bucket, brimming with more cash than Croesus , chauffeured limousines and privilege, is firmly established in Strasbourg. This is a powerful incentive for doing what you are told. Doing what you are told can bring wealth and fat pensions undreamed of in parish pump Ireland.

Z list politicians from Ireland like Mong Flangan, Simon Coveney and the worst traitor Ireland has ever produced - Black and Flanagan, a few more like them, are drawn to it like a bluebottle to dogshit. They will do anything, and I mean anything they are told to get their snouts into the bucket. A few years singing the praises of the EU and doffing their school caps at anyone with a German accent and a Hugo Boss suit and with luck a sinecure will open up in the Strasbourg Car Park Office or the Stationary Cupboard of the Reichstag.

Unless that traitors kiss is removed things will go on as usual...at least for Ireland..

brexit showed the peoples of Europe that they need not fear the big bully of Brussels/Berlin.
The British are big enough to do it.

Smaller countries like Ireland are stuck in the Brussels orbit. Political establishment completely bought off and happy to act as provincial administrators.

All you need to do is look at how FG hesitated to shut down travel from Italy. Their main concern was EU freedom of movement being compromised.

Back to a European trading federation.
But very limited influence or say beyond that!
Much simpler and better for all concerned.
