Talks between the EU and the UK aimed at securing a post-Brexit trade deal are to continue beyond this weekend.

Both sides had said that a decision on the fate of the negotiations would be made today.

EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said she and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson have mandated their negotiators to continue the Brexit trade talks and see if agreement can be reached at this late stage.

She said they have been working day and night and "despite exhaustion and almost one year of negotiations", despite the fact deadlines have been missed over and over, they both think it is responsible to go the extra mile.

The negotiations continue in Brussels.

I have suspected all along that Johnson would cave to the EU at the last minute.

When he made that statement a week ago where he said to prepare for no deal as the level playing fields and fishing and European legal oversight were red line issues he was merely trying to program the population to believe he wouldn't budge on these issues so that down the road no one would question him about these issues as they would have been made believe they were in safe hands with Johnson leading the negotiation.

I wont be surprised if we will now get a midnight declaration that a breakthrough has been made, that agreement has been reached, lots of handshakes and smiles and celebrations and popping corks and every effort to paint it as a good news story so don't you go asking questions about what was actually agreed upon as didn't you learn last week that Johnson said he would not budge on these issues.

Then gradually over time, little by little in a frog in boiling water manner it will be leaked out that Johnson did in fact cave in on every one of those issues.

there is a time to talk, and a time to blocade all their ports with your Navy.

how much respect have the EU ever shown to the popular vote of the people ? in any country ?

block the ports and allow the financial markets to finish off the EU.

The Brits stood alone against the Vatican, Hitler & Napoleon, so they got a good record against Mainland tyrannical regimes. They even may have contributed to the downfall of Rome. You may not like the Brits, but when did they ever flood the place with refugees ? apart from the 2 or 3 Plantations, that is ? at least their refugees all spoke English.....even if we didnt at the time.

be under no illusion, the EU is rotten to the core. Da Brits are the lesser of two evils.

Britain will be the largest economy in Europe within a decade, irrespective of a trade deal with the EU.

The EU is a decaying, failing Empire. Economically moribund, intellectually bankrupt, and overrun with hostile migrants.

Brexit is merely the hacking off of a gangrenous limb. Messy and dramatic, but necessary.

Once again, the Brits are showing good judgement at a critical moment in world history.

Not exactly a fan of the EU, but this pandering to be English has to stop. They are a small island nation with little clout in global affairs unlike the larger blocs of America, the EU and China, yet they still go around thinking and acting like they rule a quarter of the planet.

Little England != The British Empire.

You show your ignorance.
The term Little Englander was coined to attack those English who opposed imperialism.
