Have you seen some of Malick's other movies like Days of Heaven and Badlands.
t struck me
Like Lynch , hes seen as something of a genius, but has only made like 3 or 4 movies.
Yes I seen Badlands, the New World and the Tree of life, I think the Thin Red Line was his best work , the others contain beautiful moments but their overall content struck me as repetitive, very beautiful in the moments and insights they capture, but, regrettably not that different.

My Dad considered Badlands to be genius. It came out in 73 I think.

Its loosely based on the Charlie Starkweather murder rampage in the plains states
