No Seanad nomination for Saoirse McHugh. I believe 4 of those nominations are FF.

This selection of nominated senators is more of an insult to the electorate than usual.

FG choices
Regina Doherty - rejected as TD by the electorate
Emer Currie - Ditto
Aisling Dolan - elected cllr 2019 - now a co-option necessary
Mary Seery Kearney - ditto

FF
Mary Fitzpatrick - rejected as TD by the electorate
Lorraine Clifford Lee - ditto
Timothy Dooley - ditto
Erin McGreehan - elected cllr 2019 - now a co-option necessary

Green
Roisin Garvey - elected cllr 2019 - now a co-option necessary
Vincent Martin - rejected as a TD by the electorate. As he is a cllr, co-option necessary. (He is Catherine Martin's brother)

Independent
Eileen Flynn - rejected in 2020 Seanad elections

Nine out of the 11 nominations are women. What difference does this make to me as a woman?!!!! They have been nominated as they are party hacks, to raise their profile so they may get a Dail seat next time.

The least offensive nomination is the traveller woman. Heard her on the Miriam show this morning. Not an easy life and she gets herself an education. Marries a non traveller.

The nominations are an insult to the electorate, by the politicians who nominated these political failures.

The electorate voted to remove a high percentage of these people from public office - but the politicians deem these people suitable to hold public office since.
It is a further insult and it is anti democratic.

Dooley violated Bunreacht na hÉireann by having a colleague vote for him in the Dáil chamber while he was busy elsewhere.

The electorate wisely rejected their law-breaking law-maker as their TD at the first availability opportunity.

Dooley also fails to win a consolation seat in the 2020 Seanad Election.

I would say his appointment is a particularly bad omen for this government.

Yeah, the fact that the Greens and FG okay'ed Dooley's appointment means they're equally as bad. He was one of Martin's trusted lieutenants, like Dara Calleary, so he is being repaid with this.

Quite honestly, I'd say Martin has planted a load of bombs underneath himself.

Dara Calleary not being appointed to a full Cabinet role, despite being one of Martin's most loyal lieutenants.
Jim O'Callaghan being excluded from Cabinet ( A critic of Martin ) and a focus for discontented backbenchers. He was favourite to get Justice and it goes to FG?
Robert Troy being excluded ( another critic of Martin )
John McGuinness being excluded ( another critic of Martin )
Charlie McConalogue being excluded
Anne Rabbitte being excluded ( Was seen as a cert for Cabinet and was prominent in govt negotiations ).
Stephen Donnelly get a plum Cabinet role, despite being a blow-in and not a natural FF'er.
Thomas Byrne being excluded from Cabinet.

Martin has all of his enemies outside pissing in, instead of inside pissing out. The only enemy that was bought off with a Cabinet Role was Barry Cowen

The demands of FG-Greens meant Martin could not buy these other critics off.

Looking at the Cabinet appointments, it seems that Martin's biggest blunder might have been including Stephen Donnelly, a blow-in, while excluding tribal FF people like Calleary, O'Callaghan, Byrne, McGuinness, Troy, McConalogue, Rabbitte.

That won't go down well.
