- The land of the golden potato
Yeah, Johnson has the "ah bless, he's quite a character, isn't he?" factor. He wears a suit cut straight from the cloth of gaffes -- so he's immune when he makes 'em.That plus they can say/do some stuff using Boris which they wouldn't get away with
if anyone else said/did it.
For instance, I DO believe many in the Tory party "share a common view of the world" with the Saudi monarchs.
But nobody else in cabinet could actually get away with saying it!
Basically both sets of ruling classes are composed of Rich millionaires
saddling their unfortunate citizens with a stupid ideology
that deliberately limits their possibilities (neoliberalism/wahabbism)
Both are best pals with Israel
and both crawl right up the fetid jaxie of Washington for their orders.
The Saudi and British encounter is akin to pirates conversing with some coastal thieves. Indeed, the Brits set the whole Saud cartel up until the Americans inherited them becoming their primary patron and guarantor. The Brits today are far more needy and clingy and are always desperate to flog their substandard ware.
Of course, both Saud and Britain are senile and dazed powers capable of only short term foreign policy spasms. Saud, indeed, now has a new 'shot-caller' with this Desert Tony Blair type character in an effort to spruce up this dinosaur regime -- a cheap make-over that is unlikely to salvage Saud in the long run.
