Let's roll back the tape here a second. You're blaming the parents of those who became clergy? Do you blame too the parents of the daughters who became pregnant also?

One other point.

In sections of Irish society a lot of things were done, rightly or wrongly.
It was the convention that the eldest inherited the farm for example, and the second entered the seminary/novitiate.
That the way society was.

I've no doubt that many people in the clergy weren't there because they wanted to be there. They were there out of convention.
